Currently, one of the required Foundation courses in our program is DEP 6099: Survey of Developmental Psychology. This is typically taught in the fall semester each year.
The Curriculum Committee has now approved two possible options for students who may wish to substitute another course for DEP 6099.
Those students who have taken a general undergraduate course in Developmental Psychology, with that course title being documented on their undergraduate transcript, will now be allowed to substitute either DEP 6057 (Advanced Developmental Psychology: Cognitive Development) or DEP 6058 (Advanced Developmental Psychology II (Social and Personality Development) instead of DEP 6099. Syllabi for each of these courses are available in Viki’s office.
Again, this substitution will only be an option for those students who have taken a developmental psychology course that is clearly documented on their undergraduate transcript.
I am told that Social and Personality Development will typically be taught during the fall semester and that the Cognitive Development course will most likely be taught in the spring. They are likely to only be offered every other year.
If you are wanting to consider this option, it will be important to discuss which course you would like to take with your mentor as the relevance of the two courses to your training goals may vary by area and your mentor will need to sign off on the specific course you wish to substitute.
